Stargate is a strategic science fiction - board game or a conflict simulation of John Butterfield, published in 1979 in the American game publisher Simulation Publications (SPI). The game appeared as part of the “SPI Space Capsule” series as “Space Capsule # 2”.

The goal at StarGate is to lead your own space fleets to victory, either as the commander of the Coalition of the Oppressed Peoples of the Galaxy or as the leader of the Virunians.

The game has no relation to the science fiction film Stargate or the series and television films based on it.

Furnishing

The game was very simple: The units of both sides were delivered on pre-cut sheets with printed cardboard and had to be removed by the buyer. On a small game board, the universe around the stargate is shown as hexagonal fields . A thin booklet contains the rules of the game.

Brief description

The 19 ships of the coalition move from the left side onto the board, the 21 ships of the Virunians appear on the board via the star gates. A distinction is made between movement and combat phases, with a six-sided die being used to carry out the battles.

One field corresponds to one light second .

As a victory condition, units of the opponent must be destroyed.

Versions

In the German-language version sold by the Fantastic Shop , the original English-language game was supplemented with typewritten and then copied translations.
