Starbyte

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Starbyte was a German manufacturer and publisher of computer games. From 1988 to 1997 he published a number of titles, some of which are now considered classics.

history

Starbyte was founded in 1988 by Jürgen Kraft in Bochum. Trademarks were business simulations, adventures, role-playing games and puzzle games from German production such as "Winzer", "Invest", "Rings of Medusa" and "Dime City". The company developed many titles itself, but also worked as a publisher with external programmers and with studios such as Attic . The company focused on PC and Amiga as a platform; many games have also been implemented for the Atari ST and the Commodore 64 . From 1991 Starbyte developed games for Commodore's unsuccessful CDTV , an Amiga 500 in the case of a CD player.

In 1992 Starbyte Software GmbH had to file for bankruptcy; announced games such as "Warriors of Darkness" for CDTV and "Rolling Ronny 2" no longer appeared. While the previous partner Markus Scheer left to found the companies Art Department and Greenwood Entertainment , the company was reorganized as Starbyte Software without the addition of GmbH under the management of Jürgen and Brigitte Kraft. In 1997 the adventure "Bazooka Sue" - the last game from Starbyte - was released three years late.
