The static is a branch of mechanics that deals with still or resting bodies concerned. With these all forces are in equilibrium ; the statics is therefore also referred to as the "theory of equilibrium". Dynamics or kinetics is concerned with accelerated bodies . The methods and findings of statics can also be applied to bodies that move at constant speed, as they do not experience any acceleration.

The statics are further subdivided according to the bodies:

• Solid state statics: It is important as a branch of technical mechanics in engineering , especially in mechanical engineering and civil engineering for the calculation of forces.
  • Rigid body statics (also known as stereo statics): It deals with non-deformable bodies.
  • Elastostatics : elastic bodies
  • Structural analysis : all solid bodies
  • Rope statics : ropes
• Fluid statics : It deals with fluids (gases and liquids).
  • Aerostatics : gases (more precisely: all fluids that compress under the forces acting).
  • Hydrostatics : liquids (more precisely: all fluids that do not compress under the forces acting ).
