Stationsberg (Bad Kissingen)
The Stationsberg is an elevation in the Bavarian spa town of Bad Kissingen in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen .
At the station Mountain are the Bad Kissinger Way of the Cross and a monument on the occasion of the German war .
Geographical location
The 351 meter high Stationsberg is located in the eastern part of Bad Kissingen. At its western edge is the Ostring , part of the Bad Kissinger bypass road. To the north of the mountain are the Wendelinus area and the Osterberg ; the Bad Kissingen district of Winkels joins the latter . On its south side, the Stationsberg borders the Reiterswiesen district .

Way of the Cross
In the 1750s, the first Bad Kissinger Kreuzweg was built on the Stationsberg . The Way of the Cross began in its original form with the “Mount of Olives” at the location of today's Bad Kissinger Kurtheater .
Soon another procession, donated by Georg Renninger, was carried out in addition to the already established procession, so that more believers could visit the Way of the Cross. The individual stages of Jesus' ordeal were recreated by the citizens of Kissingen. Despite the advice from Pastor Molitor that this depiction of the Passion of Christ was conducive to the edification of the procession participants, the Würzburg Prince-Bishop Adam Friedrich von Seinsheim insisted on his demand to return to the conventional processional representation.
In the 1880s, the poor structural condition of the "Mount of Olives" prompted the Bad Kissingen dean Andreas Dietz to have the stations behind the newly built Herz-Jesu parish church . When a lack of interest on the part of the Bad Kissingen citizens led to the deterioration of the stations, they were sold to today's Bad Kissingen district of Poppenroth in 1892 and now form the crossroads there .
The stations of the Way of the Cross, which is located today on the Stationsberg , were created by the sculptor Valentin Weidner .
Ysenburg memorial
Below the Way of the Cross on the Stationsberg is the Ysenburg monument , which was erected in honor of Major Ysenburg, who died in the Battle of Kissingen during the German War .
Major Philipp Ysenburg was the commander of the 3rd Bavarian Jäger Battalion, which took cover behind the stations of the cross in order to stop the Prussian troops advancing over the Finsterberg and the Botenlauben castle ruins in the direction of Stationsberg . Despite strong resistance, the Bavarian troops suffered heavy losses. Major Ysenburg fell on the spot where the Ysenburg memorial was later erected.
