Statue menhir of Picarel

Statue menhir of Picarel

The statue menhir of Picarel stands on a forest path south of Fraisse-sur-Agout, west of the D169 road in the Hérault department in France .

It should not be confused with the menhir Pierre Levée by Picarel in Saissac in the Aude department .

The statue menhir is over 2.0 meters high, about 60 cm wide and 25 cm thick and faces south-west. The clearly visible markings on the stone, a deep cut halfway up and some circles in the upper part, are modern. No doubt an attempt was made to make a millstone out of it. The original carvings are so faint that they are almost invisible today. About 180 years ago when the stone was discovered they were clearly recognizable.
