description

The Old Staufenberg School is a historicist- style building that was built in 1902 as a Protestant elementary school . The building is a strictly symmetrical exposed brick building with a central risaliten , in which the entrance is located. The risalit is closed at the top with a gable field in the style of the Baroque and an open space in the Swiss house style . The windows and doors have garments in the style of the neo-renaissance or the new objectivity. The console frieze, which is on the eaves cornice, was designed in the neo-renaissance style.

history

The school was first mentioned in Sontheim in 1656. Classes initially took place in the official building of the Teutonic Order , to which the entire village belonged until 1805. Due to the religious affiliation, Sontheim was almost entirely Catholic, so that the original school of the place was continued in the Catholic elementary school. In 1879 the old wine press in Sontheim was increased and the school operations of the Catholic elementary school were moved there, later expanded to include rooms in the new wine press, which was also increased .

The Protestant students first attended the school in neighboring Horkheim , before a Protestant elementary school was founded in Sontheim in 1887 after the growth of the Protestant population in the course of industrialization, which initially moved into the premises of the Wolko shoe factory , until the Staufenberg School on May 14, 1902 Protestant primary school could be inaugurated.

After the denominational schools were abolished in 1936 , the lower and middle classes were accommodated in the previous rooms of the Catholic elementary school, while the Staufenberg School was reserved for the upper classes. Towards the end of the Second World War, the Staufenberg School was badly damaged, but then rebuilt.

On July 17, 1963, a serious traffic accident occurred during the excursion of the teaching staff, whose coach was rammed by an American military vehicle near Donnbronn , which resulted in ten injuries and four deaths, including the headmaster's wife, the school secretary and an assistant teacher. Rector Apprich and Vice Rector Lang were only able to return to their posts in 1964 due to injury.

After that, the building was used as a branch of the Pestalozzischule special needs school and a free Catholic school.

The new school building of the Staufenberg School and its all-day care are now located at Staufenbergstrasse 91.
