Common tusks

The Stauscheffel was an Oldenburg volume measure and a measure of the sworn brokers in the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg .

Compared to the common bushel, this ⅛ pot was larger.

  • 1 bushel (common) = 16 jugs = 1149.84 Parisian cubic inches = 22.8027 liters (for retail)
  • 1 Delmenhorster Scheffel = 18 jugs = 1310.88 Parisian cubic inches = 26.003 liters

The Scheffel in Vechta also had 18 jugs but 26.81 liters and in Cloppenburg 16 jugs were 25.72 liters. The Dammener Scheffel with 20 cans and 28.7 liters and that of Jever with 22 cans and 30.87 liters were relatively large. These deviations can be explained by the different can dimensions.
