New Ste-Eulalie Church

Ste Eulalie (also: Ancienne église ; German: Old Church) is the ruin of a church in Bourigeole in the Aude department in France . The church ruin has been classified as a single object in the cemetery area of the village since 1948 as a monument historique .

history

The church dedicated to St. Eulalia of Mérida was built in the 15th century in the Gothic style. The single nave is separated from the choir, closed on three sides, by a semicircular arch. In the west a bell gable rises above the facade . The church is located east of the town center in the middle of fields at the town's cemetery.

Around 1870 it was decided to build a new church in the village and the Eulalia patronage was transferred there. In 1877 it was decided to sell the old church and to take over the inventory in the new building. Spolia from the abandoned church was built into the new church , including a stone that was above the portal. It shows in the middle of a sun with sixteen points and the relief-like engraving + IHS A . In 1882 the sale of the old church at the cemetery was given up because the roof structure was ruined by worm infestation. The church has since fallen into ruin.
