The Steershead Crevasses (English for cattle head crevasses ) are a large and striking area of crevasses in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . The crevasses run through the Ross Ice Shelf 110 km south of Roosevelt Island . In their outline they are reminiscent of a huge head of a cow .

The crevasses are a prominent landmark on flights from McMurdo Station on Ross Island to Byrd Station in Marie Byrd Land . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1966 at the suggestion of the geographers Kenneth J. Bertrand (1910–1978) of the Catholic University of America and Fred G. Alberts.
