Stefan Bengtson

Stefan Bengtson (* 1947 ) is a Swedish paleontologist . He is Professor Emeritus of Paleontology and First Curator at the Natural History Museum in Stockholm .

Bengtson received his PhD in 1977 from Uppsala University ( Aspects of problematic fossils in the early palaeozoic ).

Bengtson deals with the early evolution of animals, especially in the Cambrian Explosion , for which he is considered one of the world's leading experts.

In 1992 he received the Charles Doolittle Walcott Medal . In 2003 he became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. In 2017 Bengtson was awarded the Lapworth Medal .
