Stefan Endres (born June 17, 1957 in Augsburg ) is a German physician ( immunology ). He is Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich (LMU).

Endres studied from 1975 at the LMU Munich and at Harvard University (BA magna cum laude 1979 in biochemistry and immunology), with clinical training at Beth Israel Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and received his state examination and doctorate in medicine in 1983 at the LMU (dissertation topic: antigen expression on activated T lymphocytes ). After the time as a doctor in an internship at the medical clinic in the inner city of the LMU and the specialist training from 1988 ( internal medicine , gastroenterology , intensive medicine ), he qualified as a professor in 1992 and became professor for clinical pharmacology at the LMU in 1997. In 2003 he received his medical license as an immunologist. From 2005/06 Endres was a member of the board and since 2006 he has been a member of the supervisory board of the University of Munich's clinic . There he is also a member of the Medicines Commission and the Center for Clinical Studies. Endres has been Dean of Research at the Medical Faculty since 2007.

Endres deals with various methods of immunotherapy against cancer. For example, from 2003 to 2007 he led a clinical phase II study for vaccination of patients with pancreatic cancer with prepared endogenous dendritic cells that are particularly suitable for presenting specific tumor antigens in the immune system. Although the results proved the effectiveness in principle, the therapeutic successes achieved were mostly of short duration. Another research focus is the use of CpG oligonucleotides in immunotherapy and pattern recognition receptors, for example for viral RNA and inflammasomes in the innate immune system.

In 2011 he was visiting professor at Harvard Medical School . Since 2009 he has been the spokesman for the DFG research group Oligonucleotides in Cell Biology and Therapy .

Endres is a member of the ethics committee of the Bavarian State Medical Association .
