Stefan Engels

Stefan Engels (born February 14, 1967 ) is a German organist and university professor.

Engels first took private organ and piano lessons from Wolfgang Seifen . From 1983 to 1986 he studied church music at the Gregoriushaus in Aachen (B-exam with distinction) under Hans-Josef Roth . From 1987 to 1990 he worked as a church musician in Viersen-Dülken.

From 1990 postgraduate courses in organ and choral conducting followed in Düsseldorf ( Robert Schumann University ) and Cologne (A-exam and concert exam). Further studies took him to the USA with Robert T. Anderson (Dallas) and Wolfgang Rübsam (Evanston).

In 1999 Engels became professor of organ playing at the Westminster Choir College of Rider University, Princeton, New Jersey / USA. In 2005 he moved to the Church Music Institute of the University of Music and Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig as the successor to Arvid Gast .

Engels has recorded numerous records for the labels Naxos and Genuin. For Priory he produces the complete works for organ by the composer Sigfrid Karg-Elert .

Stefan Engels lives in Charleston (South Carolina / USA) and Leipzig.
