Stefan Frühauf

Stefan Frühauf (born August 9, 1964 in Herborn ) is a German doctor and university professor at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . He is an internist, doctor of hematology , internal oncology and palliative medicine . His scientific interest is the clinical development of new cancer drugs.

Live and act

Early on, studied medicine at the University of Heidelberg and University College London . He completed his specialist training at the University Hospital Heidelberg, the German Cancer Research Center Heidelberg , the Johns Hopkins Hospital Baltimore and the University of Leiden . He received his doctorate in 1992 (summa cum laude) from the University of Heidelberg with a thesis on chemotherapy of ovarian cancer and in 1999 he completed his habilitation at the University of Heidelberg for internal medicine with a thesis on blood stem cell transplantation. This work was u. a. funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). He also led preclinical investigations and clinical drug trials that contributed to the approval of new cancer drugs. In 2005 he was appointed adjunct professor at Heidelberg University.

From 1999 to 2006, Frühauf was senior physician and head of autologous blood stem cell transplantation at Heidelberg University Hospital. Since then he has headed the departments for hematology / oncology and palliative medicine at the Paracelsus Clinic in Osnabrück, the Bad Hersfeld Clinic and the Dr. Hancken in Stade (2015-). He coordinated the certification of the Paracelsus Clinic in Osnabrück as an oncological center by the German Society for Hematology and Oncology and the clinics in Osnabrück and Bad Hersfeld as a Center for Integrative Oncology and Palliative Care by the European Society for Medical Oncology. From 2006 to 2008, Frühauf also took over the management of the outpatient oncological rehabilitation facility PAROS.

In terms of professional politics, Frühauf u. a. as European Vice President of the International Society for Cellular Therapy (ISCT) (2006–2008, 2012–2014) and 2007–2013 as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Society for Hematology and Oncology (DGHO). He is a member of international and national specialist societies and a reviewer in various international, national and pharmaceutical bodies. In addition, in 2008 and 2009 he was a founding member and deputy chairman of the DGHO's Oncological Rehabilitation Working Group, in 2006 President Foundation Eurograft Rotterdam and from 2008 to 2010 chairman of the Medical Society in Osnabrück.

Frühauf lives in Stade and has three sons.
