Stefan Freitag (born April 2, 1968 in Velbert ) is a German politician . From 2004 to 2014 he was the independent mayor of the city of Velbert.

Life

Friday attended the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium in Velbert , where he graduated from high school in June 1987. He then studied at the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration until 1990 and completed an apprenticeship for the higher non-technical administrative service at the city of Velbert. In 1990 he graduated with a degree in administrative management (FH). For the first three years he was entrusted with setting up a citizens' advice center at the main office of the city of Velbert in the area of ​​"general organizational tasks". From 1993 he worked as a personal advisor to the city directors Reinhard Fingerhut and Hanns-Friedrich Hörr , until in 1997 he was commissioned as project manager for the planning phase to set up the technical operations in Velbert. He then took on the commercial management of the technical operations in Velbert.

On July 1, 1997, Freitag was elected councilor of the city of Velbert and almost two years later, on April 1, 1999, he was appointed treasurer of the city of Velbert. He also became Velbert's First Deputy and thus general representative of the Velbert mayor. In the mayoral election on October 1, 2004, he was elected mayor of Velbert with 64.45% as a non-party candidate with the support of the CDU , SPD , FDP and the voter community "Stadtteile vor". In the 2009 election, Friday was re-elected with 73.8%. He did not run for the 2014 local elections. His successor was Dirk Lukrafka .
