Stefan Hofer (Romanist)

Stefan Hofer (born July 9, 1888 in Vienna ; † May 6, 1959 ) was an Austrian Romanist .

Life

Hofer received his doctorate on June 30, 1911 in Vienna under Philipp August Becker . The topic of his dissertation was The Current State of Rabelais Research . He was then a grammar school teacher in Vienna, at the same time a scientist who published on the literature of Old and Middle French and translated from Spanish ( Vicente Blasco Ibáñez ), French and English. He was a victim of National Socialism.

After the war, Hofer became professor for Romance literature at the University of Vienna .
