Stefan Kirmaier

Stefan Kirmaier (* 28. July 1889 in laughter ; † 22. November 1916 in Lesbœufs ) was a flying ace in the First World War .

Kirmaier began as an infantryman in World War I and was later transferred to the air force . During his time in the "Jametz Combat Single Seat", he scored his first three kills in July 1916. He was then transferred to Jagdstaffel 2 under the command of Oswald Boelcke . Between October 17 and 26, 1916, he scored four more kills. On October 28, 1916 Boelcke was killed in action, whereupon Kirmaier was entrusted with command of the squadron. In November 1916, when he was in command, he scored four more kills. On November 22, 1916, Lieutenant Kirmaier died while on duty from a headshot by John Oliver Andrews or Kelvin Crawford. On November 22nd he received the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern .
