Stefan Klein (born November 28, 1970 in Salzgitter ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and has been a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament since February 26, 2008 .

Life

After completing secondary school, Stefan Klein completed an apprenticeship as an administrative clerk at the city of Salzgitter and worked there until 1994. Then he attended the Fachgymnasium Wirtschaft in Salzgitter and graduated in 1997. In 2005 he completed a degree in political science, sociology and law at the Technical University of Braunschweig. From 2003 until his election to the state parliament in 2008 , Klein worked as a union secretary at Ver.di in Braunschweig . He is a member of the Social Association Germany , the AWO and the Child Protection Association . Klein is married and has two children.

In addition to his work as a politician, Klein is Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Sport- und Freizeit Salzgitter GmbH and a member of the CJD Salzgitter Board of Trustees .

On October 25, 2009, Klein was elected chairman of the 'Salzgitter Donation Parliament for Children and Young People eV'. Stefan Klein is considered to be the initiator and founding member of the association.

Klein has been a member of the SPD since 1998. He is deputy chairman of the SPD Salzgitter-Lebenstedt . He has been a councilor since 2001 and mayor of the city of Salzgitter since 2006. Since 2006, Klein has also been a member of the 'Local Council Northwest' in Salzgitter.

Since February 26, 2008 he has been a member of the SPD in the Lower Saxony state parliament. He received 48.3% of the first votes in his constituency, 14 percentage points more than the CDU candidate Elisabeth Heister-Neumann . The 2008 state election was his first choice for a state parliament mandate. In his first election period he was a member of the Committee on Social Affairs, Family, Women and Health and youth policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group.

From October 2009 to March 2013, Klein was chairman of the SPD council group in Salzgitter.

In the state elections in 2013 , he was the only SPD direct candidate to receive an absolute majority in his constituency; this was (as in 2008) the best individual result of the SPD direct candidates.

From 2013 to 2017 (17th legislature) he was a member of the Presidium of the State Parliament and a member of the Committee on Economy, Labor and Transport.

In the state election on October 15, 2017 , Klein was elected with 52.2% of the first votes .
