Stefan Kooths

Stefan Kooths (born February 17, 1969 in Mettmann ) is a German economist and has been head of the forecast center at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW) since November 2014 .

Kooths studied and did his doctorate at the University of Münster . There he was initially an assistant at the "Institute for Industrial Research" and later managing director of the "Muenster Institute for Computational Economics". Scientific guest stays took him to the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and the Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II). In 2005 he joined the economic department of the German Institute for Economic Research . In 2010 he moved to the Institute for the World Economy .

In 2013, he also took over a professorship for economics at the private University of Applied Sciences Europe (formerly Business and Information Technology School ) in Berlin.

Kooths is a member of the board of trustees of the "Prometheus" think tank founded by Frank Schäffler in 2015 .

Kooths sees undesirable macroeconomic developments primarily as a symptom of disturbed coordination processes in parts of economic processes. He examines malfunctions and disincentives in the monetary and credit system , on labor markets, in the tax and transfer system as well as in regulation and deregulation. He is also an expert in the field of national accounts .

Kooths was u. a. one of the authors of the 2014 study for the Federal Ministry of Finance with the title Finance and Economic Policy in the Case of Sustained Monetary Expansion and the 2014 study commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, The European Procedure for Avoiding and Correcting Macroeconomic Imbalances - Evaluation of Experience to date and possible reform approaches .
