Stefan Lhotka , who was also led by Lhotka Szirontai at a young age , born István Szirontai Lhotka (born May 16, 1884 in Budapest , Austria-Hungary ; † February 21, 1938 in Budapest, Kingdom of Hungary ) was a Hungarian film architect and art college teacher.

Live and act

Born in István Szirontai Lhotka, he studied art and architecture in Budapest and Berlin and then worked in these professions. As an architect and interior designer, he worked in Italy, France, Great Britain and Germany from 1906 to 1911. Back at home in Budapest, Lhotka received a professorship at the local arts and crafts school and during the First World War began to design film decorations for productions of the Star-Filmfabrik Budapest-Vienna as a permanent set designer.

In 1920 István Lhotka went to Berlin again, Germanized his first name to “Stefan” and spent almost the entire decade creating sets for German films. In this context he collaborated with directors such as Max Mack , Joe May , Otto Rippert , Lothar Mendes , Gennaro Righelli , Géza von Bolváry and Alexander Rasumny , for whom he created the buildings for “Superfluous People” in 1926, his most artistically ambitious film. Lhotka also continued to teach as an art professor in Berlin.

After his final return to Budapest, Lhotka continued his design work for the Hungarian sound film as well as his teaching activities. István / Stefan Lhotka also worked as a painter.
