Stefan Mees
Stefan Mees (born July 10, 1969 ) is a former German soccer player . In the early 1990s, he played seven games for Karlsruher SC in the Bundesliga on the position of attacker .
Mees played in his youth for the national division TB Jahn Zeiskam . In 1990 he was recruited by the Karlsruher SC under the coach Winfried Schäfer . The deeply religious Mees felt a stranger in the professional business and could not get beyond the position of permanent reservist. His hour came at the end of the 1991/92 season when many of the KSC attackers were injured, Mees showed off and even received an offer from Uli Hoeneß to move to Bayern Munich . But Mees, who called the Bundesliga a “treadmill”, ended his career and instead went to the monastery of the Christ Brotherhood in Selbitz for half a year . Although this decision caused a stir, Mees later said: “It is a time that I think back to again and again. I have become more balanced and self-confident. ”After staying in the monastery, he initially considered returning to professional football, but finally decided against it and played for a few years in the association league for his hometown club Jahn Zeiskam.
Mees lives with his wife Friederike and their two sons. He is involved in the Protestant church community and organizes services for young families. The trained tax clerk runs a financial consultancy company with friends.
