Iulia Cibișescu-Duran

Iulia Narcisa Cibișescu-Duran (born May 2, 1966 in Deva ) is a Romanian composer.

Cibișescu-Duran studied piano with Zoi Klaviera Sfârlea at the Musiklyzeum in Cluj-Napoca from 1972 to 1984 , then until 1990 at the Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca, composition with Cornel Țăranu . Until 1996 she studied orchestral conducting with Petre Sbârcea and Emil Simon . She also attended workshops and master classes in France (with Philippe Manoury , Michèle Reverdy and Alessandro Solbiatti ) and Germany (with Wilfried Hiller , Mathias Spahlinger , Gerhard Stäbler , Friedrich Goldmann and Paul-Heinz Dittrich ).

From 1990 to 1995 she taught harmony, counterpoint, music theory and history at the music school in Cluj-Napoca. Afterwards she was an assistant, since 1998 professor at the music academy. Between 1990 and 1996 she also worked as a music critic for several of the city's newspapers. In 1992 she founded the contemporary music ensemble Art Contrast , which she directed until 1997. As a conductor she worked a. a. with the philharmonic orchestras of Ploieşti , Sibiu , Craiova , Târgu Mureş , Braşov and Botoşani .

Cibişescu-Duran has received numerous prizes for her compositions, including the Gheorghe Dima Competition in Cluj-Napoca and the Lucia Blaga Competition in Sebeş , the Jean and Constantin Bobescu Prize for young conductors in 1995 and the prize in 1996 of Romanian television at the national composition competition in Iași .

Cibişescu-Duran also published two volumes of poetry: Ascunzişuri de măşti (1995) and Taina egipteană (1997). In 2002 her musicological work Structuri polimorfe în postmodernismul muzical românesc was published .
