Stefan Prähauser (born June 21, 1948 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and a former member of the Austrian National Council .

education and profession

Stefan Prähauser attended the primary school in Wals from 1954 to 1958 and the secondary school in Walserfeld from 1958 to 1962. He then learned the trade of wholesale and retail salesman in Salzburg between 1962 and 1965 and did military service in 1968.

After completing his training, Prähauser worked as a businessman and worked as a volunteer in Frankfurt from 1968 to 1969. From 1969 to 1972 he was the first salesman, from 1972 to 1981 department head in shop and exhibition stand construction . In 1980 he became sales manager in exhibition stand construction, and from 1981 to 1984 he was an authorized signatory . After that, Prähauser switched to politics and between 1985 and 2001 was state party secretary and state manager of the SPÖ Salzburg. Between 1986 and 1989, Prähauser was also managing director of the Salzburger Tagblatt GmbH and between 1988 and 2001 managing director of Allgemeine Finanz-GesmbH. Since 2000, Prähauser has been managing partner of Pinzgau-Pongau-Privatradio GesmbH and managing partner of Praehauser OEG.

Stefan Prähauser was from 1977 to 1981 section chairman of the SPÖ Josefiau and from 1977 and 1981 a member of the district party committee of the SPÖ Salzburg-Stadt. After Prähauser had been deputy community party chairman of the SPÖ Wals-Siezenheim between 1984 and 1986, he was elected community party chairman of the SPÖ Wals-Siezenheim in 1986. Prähauser remained in this position until 1998. Within the party, he was district party chairman of the SPÖ Flachgau between 1988 and 1990 and between 1997 and 2001 , and in 2001 he took over the function of district party chairman.

Prähauser was Deputy Mayor of Wals-Siezenheim between 1989 and 1990 and between 1994 and 1997. In between he was a councilor. From February 7, 1990 to February 28, 2001, he represented the State of Salzburg in the Federal Council , on March 1, 2001, he moved to the National Council. Prähauser was defense spokesman for the SPÖ parliamentary club, deputy chairman of the national defense committee, chairman of the permanent sub-committee for national defense and head of delegation to the WEU and NATO assemblies. After twelve years as a member of parliament, Prähauser renounced his mandate in July 2013.
