Stefan Schaltegger

Stefan Claude Schaltegger (born January 2, 1964 in Geneva ) is a Swiss and German economist and professor of business administration , especially sustainability management , at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg .

Life

Stefan Schaltegger studied economics at the University of Basel with a focus on marketing and economic policy . From 1992 to 1993 he was a Visiting Research Fellow at the School of Business Administration at the University of Washington , Seattle, USA. In 1994 he became senior assistant and 1996 assistant professor at the Institute for Economics of the Economic Science Center of the University of Basel (WWZ). Since 1999 he has been full professor of business administration, in particular sustainability management, and director of the Center for Sustainability Management (CSM) of the sustainability faculty at the University of Lüneburg. Schaltegger is the founder and head of the MBA Sustainability Management advanced training course at the University's Professional School.

Research & work

Stefan Schaltegger's research focus is so-called sustainability management with the aim of integrating sustainability into business management concepts. He mainly deals with the measurement and control of corporate sustainability ("Environmental and Sustainability Accounting and Reporting, Sustainability Controlling, Sustainability Balanced Scorecard"), basic concepts and methods of sustainability management (" Sustainable Entrepreneurship , Biodiversity Management, Operationalization of Corporate Sustainability") and management of stakeholder relationships.

Schaltegger is a member of the editorial boards (editorial boards and international advisory boards) of various international trade journals: e.g. "Business Strategy and the Environment", "Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management", "Journal of Environmental Sustainability", "Journal of Corporate Citizenship", " Journal of Cleaner Production ”,“ Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal ”,“ Sustainability, Accounting, Management and Policy Journal ”.

Honors

  • In 2017, the academic community of Danubis University in Romania awarded Stefan Schaltegger the academic title Doctor honoris causa .
  • In 2007, Schaltegger was awarded the BAUM environmental prize in the science category.
