Stefan "Steffi" Erik Wallin (born June 1, 1967 in Vaasa ) is a Finnish-Swedish politician. From 2006 to 2012 he was chairman of the Swedish People's Party (SFP) and from 2011 to 2012 Finnish Minister of Defense .

Stefan Wallin is the son of a bookseller and a museum guide. In 1986 he graduated from Vasa Övningsskolas gymnasium and then studied social sciences at the Swedish-speaking Åbo Akademi in Turku . He finished his studies in 1994 with a Master of Social Sciences degree . During his studies Wallin worked from 1989 to 1992 for the newspaper Vasabladet from Vaasa and in 1993 and 1994 for the Åbo Underrättelser from Turku .

After completing his studies, Wallin worked as a research assistant for the Swedish People's Party and a consultant in various Finnish ministries, including 1994 to 1995 in the Ministry of Transport and Traffic, 1995 to 1998 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 1998 and 1999 in the Ministry of the Interior and finally from 1999 to 2000 in the Ministry of Defense. From 2005 to 2007 Wallin was State Secretary in the Ministry of the Environment, before becoming Environment Minister himself from January to mid-April 2007 in Matti Vanhanen's first cabinet . In the same year he gained a seat in the Finnish parliament for the sfp in the constituency of Varsinais-Suomi and became Minister of Education and Sports on April 19. After the 2011 elections, he was Minister of Defense in the Katainen cabinet until July 2012 .

Wallin continues his work as a simple member of the Reichstag and also runs for local elections in Turku .
