Steffen Basho-Junghans (born November 27, 1953 in Vielau as Steffen Junghans ) is a German fingerstyle guitarist and songwriter. The Jazzthetik according to which he is considered "one of the brillantesten guitar virtuosos of the international scene" and is recognized particularly in North America and the UK.

Live and act

Basho-Junghans taught himself to play the guitar at the age of 17. While studying construction technology, he founded the folk band Wacholder in Cottbus in 1978 , one of the first bands of this genre in the GDR . Influenced by the American guitarist Leo Kottke , he began to understand the guitar as a solo instrument for instrumental music in 1979. In 1980 he gave his first solo concert; In 1981 he initiated and conceived the GDR's first cross-style guitar festival in Potsdam . His main influences are musicians from John Fahey's label Takoma Records and Robbie Basho (after whom he named himself), but Terje Rypdal , Ralph Towner , Egberto Gismonti and Derek Bailey as well as Indian ragas have also been reflected in his style. He therefore moved from a style that was initially quite folk-oriented "to ever more extensive and abstract forms" and has made his way through a series of albums, initially on his own label Blue Moment Arts and then mainly on the American labels Sublingual , Strange Attractors and Locust , "earned an excellent reputation."
