Wacholder was a German folk band . It existed from 1978 to 2001.

history

At the beginning of 1978 six students from the Cottbus Engineering College , including Matthias "Kies" Kießling, Jörg "Ko" Kokott, Steffen Junghans and Scarlett Seeboldt, founded the Wacholder group. A little later, two members left. As a quartet, Wacholder won the audience award of the 11th workshop week in Leipzig in the same year . In 1980 three of the musicians decided to work as professional musicians after completing their musical training at the conservatory . Erik Kross joined in May 1980 . In 1981 four pieces by the band appeared on the compilation Ein Kessel Rotes . In 1982 Almut Walther and Mathias "Geier" Wegner became members of Wacholder. The repertoire included German folk songs and own compositions.

In 1983, Mr. Wirt, so extinguish our fires, Wacholder's first long-playing record was released by Amiga . In the same year the band's first Heinrich Heine program came into being. In 1986 Almut Walther and Jörg Kokott left the group. Wacholder now sang songs with influences from England , Scotland and Ireland more often . An LP released in 1989, Es ist An der Zeit with the title song Es ist An der Zeit ( Bogle / Wader ), received little attention because of the time of the fall . In the summer of 1990 they performed songs on a summer evening , their song Das Dorf was included on the festival's anniversary CD in 2011 .

In the 1990s the band developed numerous new programs. Since 1993 Wacholder consisted of Scarlett O '(actually Seeboldt), Jörg Kokott and Matthias Kießling. In 2001 the band broke up, but between January and June 2008 they organized a tour to mark the 30th anniversary of Wacholder. Then the band broke up again.
