Arndt Sinn

Arndt Sinn (born October 27, 1971 in Greiz ) is a German criminal law scholar .

Life

Sinn studied law at the University of Leipzig until 1996 . Following his doctorate in 2000 at Walter Gropp in Gießen , he worked there as a research assistant. In 2006 he completed his habilitation with the thesis “Exemption from punishment due to third party behavior - attribution and exemption through power” and the Venia Legendi for the subjects of criminal law, criminal procedure law, comparative criminal law and European criminal law at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen.

After serving as a professor at the University of Augsburg, he was appointed full professor for German and European criminal law and criminal procedure law as well as international criminal law at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) in 2007. In the same year he was offered a professorship at the University of Osnabrück , where he has held a chair for German and European criminal law and criminal procedure law, international criminal law and comparative criminal law since 2008. In 2011, Arndt Sinn received an offer from the University of Augsburg, which he turned down.

Arndt Sinn is a member of the European working group on legal initiatives against organized crime and the author of numerous publications on this topic. He is a consultant for Europol's Serious and Organized Crime Threat Assessment (SOCTA) and for the report on the future of organized crime (Exploring tomorrow's organized crime). He also works in the Task Force on Countering Illicit Trade (TF-CIT) at the OECD. Arndt Sinn is a member of the editorial team in domestic and foreign specialist journals.

Arndt Sinn was visiting professor at universities in Japan ( Chūō University , Tokyo ) and the PR China ( University of Nanjing ).

Arndt Sinn's work comprises monographs and a large number of essays and commentaries on basic questions of criminal and criminal procedural law as well as on issues in an international context. One of his main focuses is the legal management of organized crime, also in the context of recent developments in connection with terrorism. Most recently he drew attention to himself with the study "Organized Crime 3.0".

Awards and honors

In November 2006, Arndt Sinn was awarded the “Dr. Herbert Stolzenberg Prize” from the Justus Liebig University of Giessen for his habilitation thesis and his previous scientific oeuvre.

For his long-term support and promotion of research and teaching at the National University of Kaohsiung, his outstanding scientific work and achievements as well as the great contribution to sharpening the reputation of the National University of Kaohsiung, Arndt Sinn was awarded the honorary professorship (Prof. hc) in 2017. awarded by the National University of Kaohsiung.
