The company Steib Metallbau from Nuremberg (see also Nuremberg motorcycle industry ) was a German manufacturer of motorcycle sidecars . The company was founded by Josef Steib in 1913 and existed until 1989. Before the Second World War, Steib was the world market leader in sidecar construction. In the 1950s in particular, the program initially earned good money when it served 92% of the sidecar market in Germany and BMW offered the Steib models as standard. The product range included the LS 200 models for motorcycles up to 200 cm², the LS 350 for motorcycles from 250 cm² to 350 cm² and the S 500 L and TR 500 models for motorcycles from 500 cm².

The TR500 model was also known as the "authority sidecar " and was mainly used by the Wehrmacht as a sidecar for the Wehrmacht teams. The TR500 also served as a model for the large number of sidecars manufactured in the Soviet Union for the Ural and Dnepr branded motorcycles and the Changjiang motorcycles built in China . With its replicas, the TR500 is likely to be the most popular sidecar in the world.

In 1965 Steib stopped the production of sidecars and switched to agricultural machinery.

Replicas of the Steib sidecars are still available today.
