Chang Jiang ( Chinese  長江  /  长江 , Pinyin Cháng Jiāng  - "Long River") is a Chinese motorcycle brand of the Dong Tian Enterprise Co., Ltd. in the province of Hangzhou ( People's Republic of China ) with the Chang Jiang 750 models.

history

The products are a continuation of the Soviet M72 motorcycles , which in turn are replicas of the BMW R 71 from 1938. A replica of the German Steib sidecar (TR 500) is attached to the motorcycle combination.

As part of the socialist brotherhood, the production facilities were passed on from the Soviet Union to the People's Republic of China. The Chang Jiang is technically similar to the older models of the Russian manufacturers Dnieper and Ural . This also explains the interchangeability of a number of parts and assemblies such as a. Transmission, wheels and front suspension.

Over the years, Chang Jiang has worked with changing importers in Germany. At times (at the end of the 1990s), new combinations were available for less than 3500 DM, but they had problems with the registration because they did not meet the European standards (especially with regard to exhaust gas, noise and brakes) from 1997 ( Euro 2 ) corresponded. The Swiss importer Fritz Egli deals with the import and improvement of Chinese machines and the Lehnstedter sidecar maker Warnke offers the attachment of Chang Jiang sidecars to European and Japanese motorcycles.

  3. In a modification campaign started in the early 1990s, the electrical components were modernized with the help of German technicians. In accordance with the design of BMW 2-valve boxer engines, a 12-volt alternator was mounted on the front of the extended crankshaft stub. Since then, the space freed up above the crankcase has been taken up by an electric starter, as is the case with BMW boxer engines from the / 5 series.
