Dnepr (motorcycle brand)
Dnepr , or Dnipro (ua :), also transcribed with Dnjepr in German, is a trade name for motorcycles and motorcycle sideboards from Kiev , Ukraine , which has been used since 1977.
Motorcycles have been manufactured at the Kyivs'kyi Mototsikletnyi Zavod ( Kyivs'kyi Mototsikletnyi Zavod ) motorcycle plant since 1946 . The Dnepr motorcycles and those of the other Soviet brand Ural from the Irbiter Motorcycle Works (IMZ Ural) are based on the BMW R 71 . From 1941 the M 72, a copy of the Irbiter Molotow M72 "Motozikl" (also incorrectly called "Molotow"), was built. The IMZ Ural also supplied parts.
Independent models of the Dnepr motorcycle series
In 1956 the K-750 came with a new swing arm chassis, first with a short swing fork , later with a telescopic fork again . Then the models K-650 , MT-9 , MT-10 , MT-11 and MT-16 were produced, all with OHV engines and principally the K750 chassis.
By 1989, 2 million machines had rolled off the production line. At peak times, around 9,000 people were employed at IMZ Ural. The motorcycles for civil production, however, had a very bad reputation and only a few loyal fans operate such a machine after a complete rebuild.
