The IZH-56 ( Russian ИЖ-56 ) is a Soviet motorcycle made by Ischmasch . It was produced from 1956 to 1962.

history

In 1956 Ischmasch developed a new model, the IZH-56 . It differs significantly from the previous IZH-49 model . The IZH-56 was designed as a road motorcycle for cross-country trips and was suitable both as a solo motorcycle for up to two people and as a motorcycle team for up to three people. The sidecar could be removed quickly if necessary.

The number of IZH-56s produced was 677,428, 130,000 of them with sidecars.

In 1962 it was replaced by the IZH Planeta , which was based on the IZH-56.

technology

The chassis consists of a single-loop tubular frame with split girders and pulled-down protective sheets that protect the driver from dust and dirt; the seat has a foam rubber cover. The motorcycle was produced in variants with a double seat bench and two separate seats. The carburetor and air filter disappeared behind a removable panel. The wheels with straight spokes are interchangeable. The drive chain from the transmission to the rear wheel is encapsulated.

The air-cooled single - cylinder two-stroke engine of the IZH-56 is 20% more powerful than that of the previous model, the engine output increased to 13 hp. The carburetor is preheated under the fairing. In contrast to the previous model IZH-49 , the cylinder of the IZH-56 is made of aluminum with a gray cast iron liner . The crankshaft is forged and pressed. The motor housing is divided; The front part is the crank drive, the rear the gearbox and the engine block is divided horizontally. The shifter and kick starter are on the left. In addition, as with the IZH-49, another gear lever is designed as a short, upright manual shift lever on the right side of the engine, but it is not brought up to the tank.
