The stiff-leaved water ear ( Aponogeton rigidifolius ) is an amphibious plant from the family of water ear plants .

description

This herbaceous perennial plant forms a rhizome . The leaves are ribbon-shaped, the edge is wavy and grow out of a rosette. The leaf surface is dark green. Their height is 30 to 60 centimeters. The number of chromosomes is 2n = 48.

Occurrence

The plant has its natural range in southwest Sri Lanka .

Use in the aquarium hobby

Like a whole range of water spikes , this type of plant is also offered in specialist shops for planting aquariums . However, this type of water ear already belongs to the demanding aquarium plants . Unlike many other types of water ears, however, it does not require any rest. The plant's light requirement is medium to high. It needs water temperatures between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius and is dependent on carbon dioxide fertilization of up to 20 milligrams per liter. Like the sterile hybrid Aponogeton crispus x rigidifolius , it is suitable for planting the background and central zone in the aquarium and can also be used as a solitary plant . Due to its size, the aquarium in which it is maintained should hold at least 200 liters of water.
