Compact binoculars (8x22) from Steiner

Steiner-Optik , based in Bayreuth , Bavaria , is an international manufacturer of binoculars for the military, but also for the hunting and maritime sectors. The company has been part of the Beretta group of companies since 2008 . The product range includes binoculars, riflescopes and monoculars. In addition to its own lines for hunting, seafaring, outdoor and ornithology, Steiner offers a whole range of binoculars especially for military and police use. According to its own information, Steiner-Optik is the world market leader in professional binoculars and the world's largest manufacturer of military binoculars. 200,000 to 250,000 binoculars are produced annually, 80% of which are exported.

history

Karl Steiner founded the company on November 28, 1947. The first product was the Steinette 35mm viewfinder camera . From 1955 the production was switched to high quality binoculars. In 1965 the Bundeswehr became an important customer, to whom Steiner supplied the Fero-D 12 binoculars from 1966 to around 1972. It had a specially developed shock-resistant housing made of Makrolon , a material that Steiner still uses today. Steiner was the first company to manufacture nitrogen-filled binoculars. Around 10 percent of binoculars sold go to military customers, including the US Army, the French Navy and the Indian Army. In 1989, Steiner-Optik received what it claims was the world's largest order for military binoculars up to that point, which included the delivery of 72,000 pieces to the US Army.

Other innovations by Steiner-Optik included the first binoculars with a bearing compass and the first binoculars with a laser protection filter.

In 2008 Steiner-Optik was taken over by the Beretta group of companies.
