Steinerburg

The Steinerburg is located in Obersteinach in Switzerland and was built mainly from boulders at the beginning of the 13th century . The castle site is located south of the village of Steinach on the edge of the gorge through which the Steinach flows. Today the castle is a busy ruin .

history

A previous building was built around 1200 by the Lords of Steinach, first mentioned around 1209. The two-story tower was probably built around 1230. The castle was acquired by Ludwig Vogelweider in 1481 and, together with the remaining land, became the property of the St. Gallen Monastery in 1577 and was auctioned after its dissolution in 1805. The clerestory in framework construction was canceled 1833rd In 1975 the building was renovated under the direction of the Monument Preservation of the Canton of St. Gallen. Today the Steinerburg belongs to the Pfauenmoos family foundation of the Barons von Heyl zu Herrnsheim .

Building

The castle has fallen into ruin. Three enclosing walls are still preserved from the main building , the east wall is missing. There are Gothic window frames in the walls.
