Steinfelderhof (Hochkirchen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The listed Steinfelderhof is right next to the parish church of St. Viktor in Hochkirchen in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

In 1480 "sent up Thomas roof of Hilgenroth apostolen" on St. Thomas Day , St. Apostles, on December 21st, the Steinfeld abbot Johann signed a lease agreement with Reymer Huge for the Steinfelderhof. Almost identical leases between the abbot and R. Huge and his wife Bela were also agreed in 1505 and 1517. The contract period began in each case "zo our lever frouwen lychtmissen", to our dear Mrs. Candlemas (= Maria Candlemas ), on February 2nd. The Steinfelderhof was leased with all arable land, meadows, pastures and bushes. The rent was annually at "sent Remeyes", St. Remigius , October 1st, 12 Malter wheat, 12 Malter barley, 24 Malter oats. In addition, the tenants had to collect various taxes from the abbey in the parish and the surrounding area and deliver them to the abbey at their own expense. They had to keep two stud bulls for the villagers to raise cattle at their own expense.

When the abbot himself or someone on his behalf came to Hochkirchen, the tenants had to provide hay and straw for the horses and the people with rye bread, bacon and mush (vegetables) and with jerky on meat days, with butter, eggs and cheese on other days feed.

The landlord, or whoever came to the farm on his behalf, enjoyed chickens, geese, ducks, pigeons, lambs, suckling pigs, in addition to wine, white bread, fresh meat or fish, which you have to buy. The lease agreements contain a number of other obligations that will not be discussed further here.

In 1902 the rectory was built. Before that, the pastor lived in a building in the Steinfelderhof.

The farm buildings with the half-timbered barn were demolished in 1965. According to its architectural style, the complex probably came from the 18th century. A courtyard is likely to have stood at this point much earlier.

The round arched gate typical of the area did not fall victim to the demolition excavator. It bears the coat of arms of the Steinfeld abbot Johann VIII, who was abbot around 1748. Perhaps the courtyard was rebuilt in its time in the look that is still known to many older Hochkircheners.

Today the office of the deacon and the archive of the parish as well as a meeting room for the population are located in the Steinfelderhof. The building was entered on March 13, 1985 in the monument list of the municipality of Nörvenich under no.34.
