location

history

The place was the seat of the old former parish of Steinkirchen. A church of St. Laurentius in Steinkirchen is mentioned for the first time in 1130. The first reliable mention of a pastor in Steinkirchen is on February 12, 1241 in the will of Heinrich I von Ortenburg . It lists two priests from Steinkirchen as witnesses to the donation. After the Reformation was introduced in the imperial county of Ortenburg in 1563, the Laurentius Church in Steinkirchen became the cemetery church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Ortenburg.

Steinkirchen belonged to the village of Dorfbach in 1824 and came to the newly formed rural community of Königbach in 1843. Like Steinkirchen, the village of Königbach was Protestant. With the municipality of Königbach, Steinkirchen came to the Ortenburg market on January 1, 1972 as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
