Prezydent coal mine

The coal mine Prezydent is a former coal mine in Chorzów , Silesian Voivodeship , former Chorzow in Upper Silesia . The mine was renewed between 1931 and 1933. The 42.5 meter high headframe made of reinforced concrete was designed by the architect Ryszard Heilemann.

history

The southeast field of the pit, known as König until 1922 , was named after the then Polish President Ignacy Mościcki and was given the Polish name of Król after the Second World War . In 1972 it became part of the Polska mine . After the fall of the Wall , this part of the Upper Silesian hard coal mining was shut down in 1993. In 1996 the sorting system and other systems were cannibalized.

In 2008 the city of Chorzów bought the company premises with the headframe , which was once one of the most modern of its kind in Europe. In 2009, repair work began on the headframe, the sheaves were painted red, the concrete structure was painted white. The scaffolding can be effectively illuminated at night. Since November 4, 2010 the headframe is a protected technical monument and part of the Route of Technical Monuments in the Silesian Voivodeship (Szlak Zabytków Techniki Województwa Śląskiego).

The former company premises with its buildings from the time before the First World War have been renovated since 2010 . An association operates a culture and gastronomy center there, in which, in addition to a theater and a gallery, a hotel, restaurants and a wellness center have been set up.
