The Wilhelm shaft was sunk as the second shaft in 1871. The shaft was located 800 meters east of shaft I between Hofsteder Strasse and Dorstener Strasse. In the course of time, shaft 3 was added in 1871 and another shaft in 1923.
The Werkbahn had connections to three railway companies, the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (BME), the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (RhE) and the Cöln-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (CME).
The miners' strike of 1889 in the Ruhr area began at the Zeche President.
A coking plant was operated on the mine between 1847 and 1930 .
