The United President coal mine was a coal mine in Bochum . It is named after the Lord President Baron Ludwig von Vincke .

history

The first shaft of the Zeche President was sunk in 1840 as a mining shaft . In 1842 this shaft reached the Carboniferous at a depth of 44 meters . 1844 was the promotion included in this bay. In 1852 another shaft was put into operation as a weather shaft .

The Wilhelm shaft was sunk as the second shaft in 1871. The shaft was located 800 meters east of shaft I between Hofsteder Strasse and Dorstener Strasse. In the course of time, shaft 3 was added in 1871 and another shaft in 1923.

The Werkbahn had connections to three railway companies, the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (BME), the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (RhE) and the Cöln-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (CME).

The miners' strike of 1889 in the Ruhr area began at the Zeche President.

A coking plant was operated on the mine between 1847 and 1930 .

There have been several fatal accidents at the colliery:

  • June 2, 1883: Firedamp explosion with 9 deaths
  • July 30, 1917: Firedamp explosion killing 24
  • August 31, 1936: Firedamp explosion killing 28

The highest funding was achieved at the Zeche President in 1929. 2,504 employees mined 864,706 tons of hard coal .

During the Second World War , underground manufacturing facilities of the Bochum Association were set up in the mine shafts under the code name “Maultier” .

On August 29, 1943, the mine was completely destroyed by an air raid. The facilities were not rebuilt.

Shafts II to IV were filled in 1966 .
