Dunbeacon Stone Circle
The stone circle of Dunbeacon is located in the townland of Dunbeacon ( Irish Dún Béacáin ) southwest of Durrus and Bantry , north of Dunmanus Bay in County Cork in Ireland .
There are 187 stone circles in the Republic of Ireland . The majority is in County Cork , with 103 counties . 20 counties are in County Kerry and 11 in County Mayo . The multiple stone circle of the Cork-Kerry series (after Seán Ó Nualláin also called Axial Stone Circle - axial stone circle ASC -) consists of 11 stones - six are standing, some of them are crooked and five are overturned. In the middle there is a plate-like stone 1.1 m high, 1.7 m wide and 0.3 m thick, which leans strongly to the south. The orthostats of the circle measure 1.9 m to 1.6 m in height, 1.3 m to 0.8 m in width and are 0.5 m to 0.15 m thick. The inner diameter of the circle is about 8.0 m.
The stone circle is slightly larger, but similar to the Gorteanish stone circle , which is located directly across from Ahakista on Dunmanus Bay. The row of stones from Coolcoulaghta about 400 meters away seems to be aligned with the circle. The preserved stone pair from Coolcoulaghta is clearly visible.
