Ferntower stone circle

The Ferntower Stone Circle is a four-post or "sky stone circle " at Crieff in Perthshire in Perth and Kinross in Scotland . The circle stands in the middle of the Ferntower Golf Course.

The stone circle has a diameter of about 9.0 meters, the stones are 1.5 to 1.8 m in size. The group includes two outliers ( English outlier ) to the east. The particularly large stone with a height of 2.1 m is still standing, the other has fallen over. Since one of the four circular stones was moved, the ensemble now consists of two adjacent groups of three stones each.

One of the circle stones having a bowl ( English cup destroy) on its upper surface in the vicinity of a borehole, which has been introduced in an attempt to stone.

In England only one Goatstones has been excavated. The cairn within the stone setting contained a cremation. In Scottish stone circles, charcoal, bones and cremations in boxes or pits have been found. They usually come from the Bronze Age. Another typical example of a Scottish county with an outlier is Glassel in Kincardineshire .
