Her personal best she set on July 24, 1988 with 6.96 m in Mexico City . De Jesús' twin sister Margaret de Jesús took part in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , as did Madeline . De Jesús became famous for attempting to cheat during the 1984 Games. Madeline was registered as a jumper in the long jump and participant in the 4 x 400 meter relay at these games . After injuring herself in the long jump and not feeling fit anymore, she let her twin sister Margaret compete under her name. This exchange was not noticed and Margaret, along with the other runners, qualified. When the head coach of Puerto Rico found out about the attempted fraud, he withdrew the entire running team from the competition.
Madeline now lives in Belgium and works there as a physical education teacher and trainer.
