Stone cross in the Hirtenbachtal
The stone cross in the Hirtenbachtal is a historical stone cross near Ebersbach , a district of the town of Abenberg in the Middle Franconian district of Roth in Bavaria .
description
The atonement cross is about 900 meters northeast of Ebersbach. It is there at the edge of the forest in the Hirtenbachtal on a hiking trail marked with a blue line ( ) and blue cross ( ). The small monument is made of sandstone, is slightly weathered and has the dimensions 140 × 132 × 40 cm. The cross is also locally called Landsknecht or Landsknechtkreuz . It is a simple stone cross in Latin form . The cross and head bars are subsequently attached to a new, significantly smaller shaft (68 × 40 × 25). The joint between the shaft and the crossbeam shows traces of mortar . A heart is notched into the head beam, which is probably not historical and a reference to a couple of lovers of our time. Next to the small monument there is a seating group with a table and benches.
The original cross probably dates from the 17th century. Today's cross was restored in 1965 by the local construction company Hans & Nagel. The cross is not shown on old maps, but the surrounding area is called Der Landsknecht .
Say
In the Hirtenbachtal in the direction of Mildacher Steig, the two drunken Abenberger Landsknechte Büttel and Flurer are said to have killed themselves in a dispute over stolen money and jewelry during the Thirty Years' War .
