Stone cross in Sperberslohe
The stone cross in Sperberslohe is a historic stone cross in the center of Sperberslohe , a district of the Middle Franconian market Wendelstein in Bavaria .
location
The small stone cross stands in front of the former Rotes Ross inn . It stands there directly on a wooden fence and is usually heavily ingrown during the growing season.
description
The cross is also known locally as the Küblerkreuz . The Latin cross is made of sandstone , has slight signs of weathering and measures 84 × 75 × 27 cm. Raised Maltese crosses are worked out on the front and back at the level of the intersection .
history
The stone cross is probably a typical accident cross or atonement cross. It is presumably late medieval . Nothing is known about the exact time and the reason for the installation, nor about the legend. The cross, which was once considered lost, was re-erected by the German Stone Cross Research. The cross is not shown on historical maps from around 1850, but is shown on maps from around 1967.
