Stone cross south of Sperberslohe
The stone cross south of Sperberslohe is a historic stone cross south of Sperberslohe , a district of the Middle Franconian market Wendelstein in Bavaria .
location
The small stone cross is hidden at the edge of the forest, about 1.9 kilometers south of Sperberslohe. There it is about 2 meters east of the state road St2225 from Sperberslohe to Allersberg in front of a fence.
description
The Latin cross is made of sandstone , has larger signs of weathering and the dimensions 85 × 100 × 29 cm. It broke through below the intersection. The incomplete year 169 is notched on the side facing the street . On the back, a ploughshare was recognized by the stone cross researcher Rudi Buchner .
history
The stone cross is probably a typical accident cross or atonement cross . According to the notch, it probably dates from the 17th century. Nothing is known about the exact time and the reason for the installation, as well as the legends about the cross. In historical maps from around 1850, the cross is marked a little further south.
In 1955 the cross was broken off. Mr. Wiedemann from the stone cross research set it up again with his helpers.
