history

The Steinweg was mentioned as early as 1364. The documents at that time stated:

"It was located near the current Anna Church, bordered by the so-called Latin and German churchyard, encompassing the courtyard, the Bongard, the Steinweg and the stretch long past the Altenteich and the Weierstrasse to the chicken market."

The Steinweg is said to have been the first paved road as a driveway to the Königspfalz . At times the street was also called Lutherische Gasse because the Lutheran Church, consecrated in 1779, was located there.

At the site of the house where Hermann Heinrich Gossen was born , Steinweg 9, which was destroyed in the war , there is a plaque with the following text:

"In memory of the economist Hermann Heinrich Gossen, * September 7, 1810 in Düren, † February 13, 1858 in Cologne"
