Stelian Popescu
Stelian Popescu (born February 19, 1874 in Lacu Turcului , Romania , † 1954 in Spain ) was a liberal journalist and Minister of Justice of King Carols of Romania .
Life
From 1916 to 1943 he was the director of Universul magazine .
Despite charges of embezzlement (as an entrepreneur) and torture (during his tenure as Romania's Justice Minister), Popescu remained politically influential. In 1936 Victor Eftimiu wrote in his disclosure book about Stelian Popescu:
- You don't love your country, you consider it to be your object of exploitation. You never gave him anything, but you took everything from him! Take your paws off the standard .
In 1945 Stelian Popescu accused his daughter-in-law Maria Popescu of wanting to poison him with veronal .
