Stellavox SP8

Stellavox is a company founded in 1955 which, until its final dissolution in 1988 , was mainly concerned with the development and production of portable tape recorders . In addition, studio equipment and tape machines for data recording were also manufactured. Stellavox had to be sold to the company of its competitor Kudelski as early as 1964 , but was re-established in 1968 . In the 1970s Stellavox also built mixing consoles, the most famous being the AMI 48. A total of around 900 mixing consoles were manufactured. A successor company under the management of Jean-Pierre Gurtner offers spare parts and service for many Stellavox models. There is also a company called Stellavox in Switzerland, it works with the same logo as the former company, but does not produce recording devices, but power amplifiers, analog-to-digital converters and passive volume controls for studio use.

Georges Quellet

The company's founder, Georges Quellet , was born on May 10, 1929 in Neuchâtel , Switzerland . In 1955 he founded his company Stellavox and began producing tape recorders, initially for sound hunters associations.

Details

From the SP7, the following formats were possible by changing the head carriers:

  • Mono (full track and half track)
  • Stereo (half track and quarter track)
  • Neo pilot tone (for mono)
  • Synchroton (for Stereo, a Stellavox in-house development)

The mechanics can handle all relevant belt speeds up to around 50 cm / s. Matching head carriers were required, there were also head carriers with two switchable speeds (9.5 / 19 cm / s or 19/38 cm / s).

The interesting thing about the mixing consoles was that they were built into the same housing as the "SP" tape machines. The level meters and master controls were not located on the right, as usual, but on the left of the device, conforming to SP requirements.
