Mortising machine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mortising machines are machines for making grooves and mortises in wooden parts .

Mortising machines usually work on transverse wood and imitate the work of mortising by hand. There are mortising machines that work vertically and horizontally. The machines can be distinguished by the way in which the mortise is started.

Usually, a cylindrical hole is pre-drilled in the width of the mortise at one point of the mortise. That is why most mortising machines are also provided with a drilling spindle . The chisel or the chisel inserted rotatably in its guide is rotated 180 ° as soon as the end of the hole is reached. This creates a sharp delimitation of the mortise.

There are mortising machines that work by hand, and those with mechanical or electric drives.
