The racing snakes ( Drymobius ) are a genus of the snakes. The four species live mainly in Mexico and Central America . Some of these adders can also be found in Texas or in South America, for example in Brazil .

When fully grown, racing snakes reach a length of 70 to 100 cm. Their colors and patterns differ in their kind. The snakes are diurnal and live in heavily forested areas mostly close to the water. Their diet consists largely of frogs and toads . Racing snakes mate in spring and lay six to eight eggs in their clutch in early summer. The young hatch from the eggs after about 2 months and are 15 to 20 cm long.
