Marie Firmin Bocourt
Marie Firmin Bocourt (born April 19, 1819 in Paris ; † February 3, 1904 there ) was a French zoologist and artist .
Life
In 1861 Bocourt stayed twice in Siam , where he researched the fauna and brought numerous specimens with him. From 1864 to 1866 he led a scientific expedition to Central America with Auguste Duméril . The excursion took place at the time of the French intervention in Mexico , for which Napoléon III. 1864 a scientific commission, the Commission scientifique du Mexique founded. The expedition began in 1864 in what is now Guatemala , where Bocourt spent most of the expedition. This was followed by explorations in the area of Belize , El Salvador and Costa Rica . The journey home to France took place from Panama .
Boucourt's collection of amphibians and reptiles formed the basis of his mission scientifique au Mexique et dans l'Amérique Centrale . His specimen copies were processed by himself, Auguste Duméril, François Mocquard , Léon Louis Vaillant and Fernand Angel (1881–1950) between 1870 and 1890.
As an artist, he made engravings and portraits of contemporary people as well as zoological illustrations.
